The Japanese Garden

Surely one of the most pleasant aspects of living in Portland will be the opportunity to visit the very fine Japanese Garden in Washington Park.   We both love the look of traditional Japanese gardening and architecture, and having such a good example close by will be something we'll really appreciate as the years go by.   It's going to be a wonderful place for us to pause a moment to contemplate the meaning of life and the tranquil beauty of nature.

The first set of pictures here were taken in late September, 2011 on our first trip to Portland. At that point, the Japanese maples still had not quite changed color.   Now, in March of 2012, they've lost their leaves and are quite bare.  Soon they'll bud out with new leaves and we'll return to see the spring colors.   Also of particular note will be the many rhododendrons, which abound in Portland and are already beginning to bloom.   It should be a very colorful spring.  Many more pictures are sure to follow.
