Our First Visit

Although we first thought seriously of moving up to Portland way back in 2007, it wasn't until October of 2011 that we actually visited the city together, with the idea of moving there.

That trip came about rather suddenly, after Marny found a real-estate listing for a condominium in a building she especially liked, owing mainly to its close proximity to downtown Portland.   Also important was its location near the MAX light rail transit line and its closeness to the green spaces of Washington Park.   So we came up to take close look at the condo, and while there we also paid a visit to the Rose Garden in Washington Park where these photos were taken.   It was rather late in the season, but there were still some roses in bloom, and the maple trees in the park were starting to turn their bright red fall colors.   The marvelous greens of the fir trees and other foliage impressed us greatly, and almost at once we began to feel very much at home in Portland.

This visit was just a short one, and of course we had to concentrate mostly on the business at hand, but by the time we left a few days later, we pretty much had made up our minds that Portland really was where we wanted to live.   The scenes in the Rose Garden pictured here provided one major reason why.
